Who is ZuriK?

ZuriK is a Colombian graffiti artist and graphic designer who began her journey in graffiti in 2009 while studying graphic design at the National University of Colombia. Her passion for the visual arts emerged at an early age, painting her first oil canvas at 9 and later discovering lettering at the age of 14. Years later, she began painting actively on the streets and has since dedicated herself exclusively to creating various works, from murals to paintings, combining letters, geometric elements, and characters that inspire reflection, tranquility, and tenacity.

Career

Building a career

Her characteristic work and style have allowed her to establish herself within the international scene, leaving her mark in several countries, notably Australia, France, Germany, the United States, Spain, Italy, Andorra, Portugal, and Mexico, among others, and collaborating with brands across different industries for projects ranging from advertising murals and live painting to social media campaigns. Her wildstyle graffiti, blended with an almost vector-like design and characters with expressive gazes of strength and self-determination, gives her a foothold in both worlds: graffiti and urban art.

For 10 years, ZuriK has been a permanent resident of Barcelona, Spain, where she has found a solid foundation to continue evolving, mindful of the importance of integrating images into urban furniture; for her, painting in the street is a discipline that must be carried out responsibly, recognizing that public space is a melting pot of opinions, beliefs, and ideologies of all ages and ethnicities, and emphasizing the importance of respect and the right to the integrity of each one.

In practice

Lessons learned

Throughout her career, she has had the opportunity to interact with various types of people and environments, giving her a broad perspective on social dynamics where she is fully aware of the impact her work generates as a final object, but also of the educational and participatory power created by the dynamics between herself, the mural, and the viewers.

About the style

Zurik is known for her meticulous and organized work style, as well as her perfectly polished finishes that sometimes give the impression of being a printed piece rather than a hand-painted one. Each project is designed from scratch, and every drawing has a specific purpose, resulting in a unique piece for every space she has had the privilege of transforming.

For her, it is crucial to maintain the prominence of the letters, which she describes as a style close to WildStyle, a complex form of graffiti where the overall composition is prioritized over legibility.

Her goal is to bring this style to the general public without losing value or authenticity, firmly believing that there is still much to discover; since her beginnings, she has been critical of the visual norms of what graffiti should be and what is considered “well or poorly done,” questioning at every stage of her development as an artist the how and why of things, resulting in a completely personal hallmark that transcends her murals and permeates everything around her, including her philosophy of life and the way she showcases her work, whether through photography, video, or this very website, to which she has dedicated years of design and adjustments as an important part of her professional career.
