For this summer of 2024, a new collection of personalized Skateboards by different artists has been launched under the name “Street Boards”, an initiative of URBANEEZ, the urban art gallery with which I have been collaborating for some years and which on this occasion He has given me total freedom to create this unique piece that is available through his website.
It’s no secret that for a couple of years now I’ve been working with MDF (or DM) to add some thin layers of depth to most of my pieces; This started when I decided to do it for the first time for some Nike sneakers (see project) and continued to become one of my favorite mediums when creating small-format pieces.
On this occasion I wanted to go beyond the edges of the table and give prominence to the character; The letters intermingle with the figure and that is why I decided to use only the white contour line to continue maintaining the structure and legibility of the letters, playing with the filling between background and shape, providing it with some 3D dimension points to that continued playing with the idea of volume, without it necessarily being physical.
My favorite part is the hair, created from several pieces of DM placed very carefully on the base, with a small horizontal cut in the upper curvature of the board so that when it was hung horizontally there would not be a big difference in space between the wood additions and the board itself, this was a decision on the one hand aesthetic and on the other hand practical since the pieces are so thin it is much better to keep them as close to the surface as possible.
